Summary
On this 8-day Portugal group tour, stay for seven nights in the beautiful coastal town of Estoril, on the outskirts on Lisbon. Visit the UNESCO-listed Sintra National Palace, enjoy a full day of guided sightseeing in Lisbon and visit some of the area's most beautiful towns, including Obidos, Alcobaca and Nazare. Plus, with three full leisure days, you have plenty of time to relax at the beach or explore further at your own pace.
Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to Estoril
You will most likely arrive at Lisbon Airport. From here, make your own way to our hotel in Estoril. On arrival, the rest of today is at leisure to settle in. There is an included welcome dinner at the hotel tonight.
Tour Style: On this tour you will stay in the same hotel throughout, with included excursions and free time to spend at leisure. On the excursions the maximum group size is 45. A tour leader is on hand at the hotel to provide information and assistance throughout your stay.
Day 2
Sintra National Palace
Estoril - Sintra - Estoril. Today we enjoy an guided half day excursion to Sintra National Palace, located in the foothills of the Sintra Mountains. The palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former summer home of the Portuguese Royal Family. We take a guided tour of the 16th century palace, before returning to Estoril for an afternoon at leisure.
Day 3
Estoril at leisure
Today is at leisure in Estoril. Our tour leader will be on hand to suggest activities and excursions to visit, or you are free to head to the stunning Cascais Coast for a beach day.
Day 4
Exploring Lisbon
Estoril - Lisbon - Estoril. Today we are heading out to explore Portugal's capital, Lisbon, on a full day tour. We explore landmarks that showcase the country's historical significance during the Age of Discovery, including the Monument to the Discoveries, the iconic Belem Tower, and the Jeronimos Monastery (viewed from the outside). Wander through the bustling Rossio Square, the elegant Avenida da Liberdade, and Marques de Pombal Square. After the guided tour, enjoy free time to shop and explore Lisbon at your own pace before we return to the hotel.
Day 5
Estoril free time
Today is at leisure. From Estoril, you might like to visit the nearby resort of Cascais, once a royal retreat, now a vibrant town known for its grand mansions, sandy beaches, and bustling fishing harbour. Alternatively, you can delve further into Estoril’s attractions, including the famous Casino, once a haunt for spies and royalty, and the inspiration for the James Bond film Casino Royale. Estoril also boasts beautiful beaches, scenic promenade walks, and a variety of bars and restaurants.
Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, hop on the local train for a return visit to Lisbon and discover more of the Portuguese capital.
Day 6
Obidos, Alcobaca & Nazare
Estoril - Obidos - Alcobaca - Nazare - Estoril. Today's included excursion begins with a visit to the picturesque, walled town of Obidos. We can enjoy a guided walking tour through its charming cobblestone streets, beneath the shadow of a 12th-century castle. Enjoy some free time to explore at your own pace before we depart for Alcobaca, where we’ll visit the impressive 12th-century Cistercian monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Next, we head to the coastal town of Nazare, famous for its whitewashed cottages, quaint cobbled lanes, and stunning views over the Atlantic from its wide sandy beach. Nazare sees some of the highest waves in the world, and is a popular surfing spot. A delicious lunch at a local restaurant in Nazare is included before we return to Estoril.
Day 7
A final free day
Enjoy your final full day in Estoril at leisure. Head out to do any last-minute souvenir shopping, or kick back on the beach to make the most of the Portuguese sunshine. If you haven't found a good pastel de nata yet, now is your last chance!
Day 8
Estoril
Enjoy a final breakfast at the hotel before check out. We wish you a safe onwards journey!
